GARDEN HOCKEY LEAGUE (GHL)
The GHL is a recreational program designed to foster development
of the person and hockey player while having fun. Fun is
the operative word. The Program emphasis is on improving
skating skill, on improving fundamental hockey skills, and
on developing team play and sportsmanship. Approximately
twenty GHL teams will be formed with an adult, volunteer
parent coaching staff of at least two! Atoms parent
volunteer coaches will be assisted by Winter Garden Staff
for the first month, and their games will take place on a
smaller divided rink format.
During pre-season evaluations, each player is rated and
is placed on one of three lines with other players
of the same skill. Teams will be balanced. In games, each
line plays against the corresponding line on the other team,
so everyone is equally matched. Team standings are maintained
and there is a season-ending playoff. All players are given
equal ice time regardless of ability. The program consists
of an average of one practice and one game per week. GHL
play will be lightened up between Dec 24 and Jan 1 to accommodate
school holidays. Complete hockey outfitting is required!
We will once again this season, offer an all girls team
at the U12 & U14 levels. This
team (or teams if number permit) will play against other all
girls house level teams in the state. Home and away

RIDGEFIELD "LIONS" TRAVEL HOCKEY (RAHA) Ages: 7
- 14
Ridgefield Amateur Hockey Association has a history of being
one of the finest programs in the State. RAHA is a closely
affiliated but independent organization that skates out
of Winter Garden. The Lions offer travel teams from Mites
through Bantams. As a member of the Connecticut Hockey
Conference, the teams play competitive schedules against
other CHC member teams, and also participate in several
out-of-state tournaments each season. Try-outs will be held
the the last week of August and the first week of September.
You must pre-register directly with RAHA in order to try
out. A travel tryout registration does not guarantee a player
a place on a Garden Hockey League team. If you wish
to reserve a spot in the Garden Hockey League (the house
league) to guarantee that your child will have a place to
play if he or she does not make a travel team, you must
register separately. If you are interested in participating
in Travel Hockey, or if you would like to learn more, check
the travel hockey website,
RidgefieldHockey.org
for more information.
In-Person registration will take place at Winter Garden Ice
Arena on Saturday, June 2 (9am-2pm) and Monday, June 4 (5-8pm).
A late fee will be assessed to registrations received after
July 1.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY
The Hericanes, an all women's hockey team, is beginning
their eighth season this fall. The women play on
Sunday nights and Friday mornings. Full equipment is
worn and it is a no-check league. Many of the players are
the mothers of young hockey players and were drawn to the
sport through their children. But most will tell you
that it is fun, a great workout, and certainly a healthy way
to express their aggression.
The Hericanes' mission statement expresses the sentiment of
the team: "To enjoy the sport of hockey with the spirit
of a 9 year-old child and support out fellow teammates with
positive comments." Anyone interested in joining
should contact Meg Campbell (203-762-3057)

ADULT HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Fall & Spring
This program is designed for those who want to get back
into the game after being away for a long time, or for total
beginners. Maybe, you just want to know what your kids are
going through. Limited to 32 participants, the program is
designed to develop hockey fundamentals of skating, stickhandling,
shooting, passing, and team play. This is a friendly, no-check
program. Safety is our primary concern, so complete equipment
is required. The Final 60 Minutes will be an
official game with referee and scoreboard! If you aspire to
coach in the GHL, this will show you exactly what kids
need to learn. You’ve been watching all year...go for it!
